As an expert in the field of marketing, I have seen the industry evolve and grow over the years. One thing that has remained constant is the presence of the Big 6 - the biggest names in payment media that dominate the market. These companies are behind some of the most successful social media payment campaigns for well-known brands like Apple, Disney, the NFL, Spotify, and United Airlines, among others. Interestingly enough, one of these companies, WPP, didn't start out as an advertising agency. It actually began as a majority stake in a small British manufacturer of wire baskets and teapots called Wire and Plastic Products.
It was acquired by Martin Sorrell, who later changed its name to WPP and transformed it into an international advertising and marketing services group. WPP was formed from the merger of two advertising agencies - BBDO and DDB - after realizing the rapid growth of its biggest competitor at the time, Omnicom. Today, WPP is a global leader in marketing communications with a portfolio of over 5000 clients and a presence in more than 70 countries. In 2019 alone, it achieved a turnover of 13.468 billion euros. Another major player in the industry is TBWA, which is now part of Omnicom. Founded in 1970, TBWA has become a globally interconnected network of leading marketing communications companies.
With its impressive track record and extensive reach, it's no surprise that TBWA is included in the Big 6.And then there's Accenture, which was originally a division of Arthur Andersen - a company focused on business and technological consulting. However, in August 2000, the ties between Accenture and Arthur Andersen were severed, and the company was renamed. Today, Accenture is a major player in the marketing industry, with a strong presence in the global market.
